Love Letters performance rescheduled

February 22, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - Back by popular demand (and an incapacitating ice storm), the UWG Theatre Program presents A.R. Gurney’s poignant comic-drama, Love Letters, for one night only on Friday, March 11, in the newly restored Martha Munro Acting Studio on the University of West Georgia campus. Light appetizers will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.

UWG News PhotoThe performance will showcase Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna, UWG president, and Brenda L. Dangle, UWG alumna. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Theatre Program Scholarship Fund.

According to Shelly Elman, director of the Theatre Program, the play was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights, Jan. 28 and 29, but the Saturday performance was cancelled due to an ice storm.

Spanning 40 years of happiness and heartache, Gurney’s play takes the audience on a journey of love, loyalty and laughter, through the fervent friendship of Andrew Makepeace III and Melissa Gardner. Long one of Gurney’s most produced plays, the beauty of Love Letters is in its simplicity; the play is a staged reading allowing both actors to create emotional, heartrending portrayals.

The UWG Theatre Program is accredited through the National Association of Schools of Theatre. Its primary mission is to educate and inspire students who wish to study the art of theatre.

“By offering a B.A. degree in Theatre, we hope to provide students with a well-rounded education in all areas of theatre arts – production and performance (including acting, directing, and design/technical skills), literature and history,” explains Elman. “Providing this type of education will empower individuals to seek careers in theatre, careers related to theatre or other professions.”
