February 3, 2006

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia and the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts will present America! We the People on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m.

America! We the People is an exciting production that takes its audience on a walk through our nation’s history beginning with Native American legends like Chief Sitting Bull and continues onward with historic men and women including Benjamin Franklin, Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain and Martin Luther King, Jr.

America! We the People incorporates drama, dance, music and American Sign Language as well as several Spanish and English pieces into the show.

The powerful play will thrill the audience with American historic touchstones like the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. Writers and poets such as Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes and Carl Sandburg will captivate theatergoers. The production is perfect family entertainment for all ages.

Robert Jennings, director of the Townsend Center, said the event will be a heartfelt journey.
“This play will leave the audience full of pride in their country and their people,” said Jennings. “It is one of the best educational productions in the southeast.”
