Latin Film Festival

February 5, 2006

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia’s Latin American Studies Program has announced the schedule for its annual Latin American Film Series. The series will feature three different Latin films over the course of the spring semester, all to be shown in the Technology-enhanced Learning Center (TLC) Room 1-301 at 6 p.m.

The first film, “Official Story” will be shown on Tuesday Feb. 7. This Argentinean film, created in 1985, is the tale of a teacher who suspects her adopted daughter may be the child of a murdered political prisoner.

On Tuesday, March 7, “The Crime of Padre Amaro” will be shown. This film, produced in Mexico, narrates the story of a recently ordained priest who is sent to help run a small church in rural Mexico. The line of sin and temptation is crossed when the handsome priest meets a young and beautiful parish member.

The last film in the series is scheduled for Tuesday, April 11. “Death and the Maiden” was created by acclaimed director Roman Polanski and features the story of a young woman who had been taken prisoner and is given the chance to face the man responsible for her nightmares.
