Soprano Hardenbergh to perform

CARROLLTON, GA - Guest artist soprano Dr. Esther Hardenbergh will perform in recital with pianist Dr. Carol Gingerich at the University of West Georgia on Tuesday, April 1, at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. The event is sponsored by the Department of Music.

The duo will perform songs and operatic arias in English, French, Czech and German by composers Nancy Wertsch, Reynaldo Hahn, Amy Beach, Antonin Dvorák, Richard Strauss and Gwyneth Walker.

UWG News PhotoHardenbergh is currently on the faculty of the School of Music at the University of Miami. She has sung extensively in the United States and Europe in opera, oratorio and recital. Gingerich, assistant professor of music at UWG, is a graduate of Columbia University Teachers College (New York), where she studied piano. She also holds a Master of Music degree in piano accompanying and coaching from Westminster Choir College.

Hardenbergh made her Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall debut in 1999 as the winner of the International Opera Singer Competition and is highly respected as an interpreter of recital repertoire, in particular 19th century German lieder and 20th century American art song. She has performed with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Memphis Symphony, Atlanta Baroque Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Alabama Symphony, Miami Bach Society and the Boulder Philharmonic. She has most recently toured France with the Miami Bach Society and will return to sing several performances in 2002 and 2003. Hardenbergh recently sang a week of sold-out performances with the Naples Philharmonic, under the direction of Maestro Erich Kunzel.

Gingerich studied piano with Karl Ulrich Schnabel and piano pedagogy with Robert Pace at Columbia University. Her research focuses on the French piano style, and she has presented papers at the World Piano Pedagogy Convention (Florida) and at the International Conference on Parody and Imitation (Georgia). She has given numerous lectures and recitals on this topic.
