Nursing dept. presents health fair March 3, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The Nursing Department at the University of West Georgia presents its 3rd annual Health and Community Service Fair on Saturday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at UWG’s Student Recreation Building. This project originally started as a Hispanic Health Fair organized by the UWG Nursing Department in collaboration with the Health Department, Housing Authority and the Multicultural Community Alliance Center (MCAC). This year the fair is open to everyone in the community. According to Denise Oglesby from MCAC, the event was well attended last year with 18 exhibitors and approximately 120 participants. In addition to free health screenings, free clothing, door prizes and refreshments will be available. Interpreters will be on site to assist those with communication challenges. The screenings will include blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, sickle cell, hearing, eye and dental. In addition to health exhibitors, there will be others such as the Mexican consulate, two banks in Carrollton, a civil law attorney, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Housing Authority, and the sponsors: MCAC, Gold Kist and Latinos Unidos de Carroll County.
