10X3: Plays on Heroes March 28, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - University of West Georgia students will perform six self-written and self-directed plays for 10X3: Plays on Heroes in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts Black Box theater on Wednesday, April 9, through Saturday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m., and also on Sunday, April 13, at 2:30 p.m. The play topics range from comic strip superheroes to the Sept. 11 World Trade Center destruction and tributes to everyday heroes. The plays were written in a fall semester playwriting class. Six students were each challenged to write two 10-minute plays based on heroes. The six plays chosen to be performed were written by Nicole Forgoston of Roswell, Casey Johnson of Hiram and Nathan McDonald of Sunny Side. During the playwriting class, the students received guidance from a published playwright, Barbara Lebow, who visited West Georgia for a staged reading of each play. Lebow has published A Shayna Maidel, which is produced all over the United States, and The Left Hand Singing. She is a playwright in residence with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and the Academy Theater. The cast members include Justin Horn of Lawrenceville, Greg Hurd of Augusta, Jonathon Burt of Locust Grove, Heather Schroeder of Lilburn and Kelly Gallagher of Villa Rica. Tickets can be purchased at the Townsend Center Box Office on Wednesday, April 2. They are free for West Georgia students and $5 for adults.
