Outstanding students to be honored March 13, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - Outstanding students at the University of West Georgia will be recognized during the Honors Day Convocation on Thursday, April 3, in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts at 1:30 p.m. “The Honors Convention is the formal way the University publicly acknowledges and honors undergraduate excellence. The students receiving the awards have been selected by academic departments, colleges and scholarly organizations on the basis of their academic achievements,” said Dr. Donald Wagner, dean of the Honors College and director of special programs. Over 50 students will be recognized for their academic work. Classes scheduled between 1 and 3 p.m. will be canceled to allow all faculty and students to attend. UWG’s Honors College, which is the only Honors College in Georgia, provides students with a different type of atmosphere to learn and study, according to Wagner. Through its small classes, students receive greater individual attention and more opportunities for class discussions. Honors classes are more challenging and place more responsibility on the student. For more information concerning Honors Day, contact the Honors College at 770-836-6636. -30- |
