Student honors recital

March 31, 2003

CARROLLTON, GA - Exceptional students in the University of West Georgia Department of Music will perform during the annual Student Honors Recital on Thursday, April 3, at 3:30 p.m. in the Kathy Cashen Recital Hall of the Humanities Building. Part of the University’s Honors Day activities, this event recognizes excellent music students for their achievements and offers them an opportunity to perform in addition to regularly scheduled recitals.

Performers in the Honors Recital are recommended by their major applied instructors and approved by the music faculty after an audition. In addition to the performances, several students will be presented academic awards before the recital by Dr. M. Scott McBride, department chair, and Dr. Carol Gingerich, assistant professor of music and head of the piano studio.

Students who will receive academic awards are Tiffany Brown of Newnan, Music Faculty Award; Christopher Carr of Jonesboro, Mary Lou Munn Award; Michael Cater of Carrollton, Art Study Award; Jameson Linville of Newnan, Carrollton Lit Mu Club Award; Stacy Gay of Kennesaw, Gordon Watson Award; and Wayne Gilreath of Bremen and Michael Gilreath of LaFayette, who will share the Genevieve Reynolds Piano Pedagogy Award.

Performers will be Carr, clarinet; Gay, alto saxophone; Wayne Gilreath, piano; Linville, baritone; Mike Felker of Cumming, vibraphone; Kelly Harris of Woodland, Ala., piano; Brandon Johnson of Douglasville, guitar; Elizabeth Mote of Villa Rica, mezzo-soprano; and Thomas Vaden of Carrollton.
