Media Day scheduled

March 13, 2003

CARROLLTON, GA - Mass communications students at the University of West Georgia will be given the opportunity to speak firsthand with professionals in their field on Media Day, which is scheduled for Thursday, March 27. The event will be quite different from years past because high school students will also be participating.

“I’m looking forward to bringing local high school student journalists to our campus to see our program in action and to meet our students,” said Dr. Marie Hardin, assistant professor of mass communications and Media Day organizer.

More than 100 high school students from 10 local schools will attend Media Day. They will attend sessions about integrating ethics into high school journalism from 8 to 11:30 a.m. UWG’s own mass communications professors will instruct the morning sessions.

From noon to 1 p.m., UWG students and high school students will come together for a luncheon. CNN anchorman Leon Harris and Wanda Rodwell, general manager of corporate communications for Delta Air Lines and a member of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, will be the keynote speakers.

A 1:15 p.m. session for UWG students and the public will offer them the chance to ask questions of a panel of mass communications professionals, including an editor from the Atlanta Tribune, a writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a public relations agent from Trust for Public Land and a morning radio personality from 99.7-FM. The session is free and will be held in the Education Center.
