Education Convocation March 15, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia’s College of Education will host its 2004 Convocation Honors Program on Thursday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in the Education Center, Rooms 3 and 4. State School Superintendent Kathy Cox will deliver the convocation’s keynote address “In Celebration of Education,” and awards and scholarships will be presented to exemplary supervising teachers and outstanding graduate and undergraduate students. Cox is the state’s top elected official over Georgia’s K-12 public schools and the chief executive officer of the Board of Education. She was first elected into public office as State Representative in 1998 and ran for state school superintendent in 2002 to continue her service to the improvement of Georgia’s school system. Cox also worked with the Fayette County Board of Education as a social studies teacher for 15 years. She received both her Master’s and Bachelor of Arts in political science from Emory University where she graduated with high honors and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
