Debate team going to National Tournament March 3, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - For 32 consecutive years, at least one team from the University of West Georgia has qualified to compete at the National Debate Tournament which will be held at Catholic University March 31 – April 6. UWG Debate competed at the District VI National Debate Tournament Qualifier held at Georgia State University February 27-29. By placing first in the southeast region, competing against schools such as Emory, UGA, Wake Forest, Miami, and Florida State, West Georgia Debate once again qualified for the NDT. According to Mike Hester, UWG director of debate, West Georgia’s streak is matched by only six other schools in the country: Dartmouth, Georgetown, Harvard, University of Kansas, Northwestern, and the University of Redlands. The team of James Thomas, junior from Roswell, and Joseph Koehle, junior from Pittsburgh, will be competing at two national tournaments as the debate season concludes. The Cross Examination Debate Association National Championship, won by UWG in 2000 and 2001, will be held at the University of Louisville March 17-23 and the NDT will be held March 31-April 6.
