Dr. Goldstein to attend seminar on Modern Israel March 17, 2004 CARROLLTON,
GA - Brandeis University has selected Dr. Jonathan Goldstein, professor
of history at the University of West Georgia, to be one of 20 college
professors from Goldstein was chosen from a national pool of applicants to attend Brandeis’ institute on infusing the study of Modern Israel into the undergraduate collegiate curriculum. Leading scholars who will address Goldstein and the nineteen other U.S. college professors include Professors Arnold Band (UCLA, Israeli Literature and Culture), Alan Dowty (Notre Dame and Calgary, Israeli Politics), Avi Ravitzky (Hebrew University, Jewish Thought), Sharon Rivo (Brandeis, Israeli cinema), Eli Rekhess (Dayan Center, Tel-Aviv University, Israel/Arab relations and Middle East), Emile Sahiliyeh (Texas, Palestinian society), Eugene Sheppard (Brandeis, Zionist ideology), and Ilan Troen (Brandeis, Israeli social history). At West Georgia, Goldstein teaches an undergraduate “World Civilization Since 1500” history survey as well as upper division courses on China, Japan, India, Vietnam, and The Holocaust. His books include CHINA AND ISRAEL [1999] and THE JEWS OF CHINA [2000]. In addition to revising his own course syllabi in consultation with the above-named scholars, he will share his research on Jewish communities of the Far East and on Israel’s relations with Far East countries. The Brandeis summer seminar is the only institute in North America focusing on the pedagogy of Modern Israel. -30- |
