Jazz performance March 5, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia Jazz Ensemble will perform its Spring Jazz Concert under the direction of Dr. Dan Bakos, professor of music, on Thursday, March 18, at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. Selections on the program will include the ballad “Memories of Cynthia” by Steve Spiegl, featuring saxophonist William Camp, a performance major from Rockmart, and “Hot,” also by Spiegl. “Song for my Father” by Horace Silver, will also be featured along with “Basically Basie,” written in the style of Count Basie’s Kansas City-style jazz big band, and “[This Space for Rent],” both written by Jeff Bunnell. Vocal numbers will include “Almost Like Being In Love,” “Caught a Touch of Your Love” and “Every Day I Have the Blues.” Bakos is also the organizer of the Nineteenth Annual Sunbelt Jazz Festival, which will feature a performance at UWG on April 23 with guest artist Alex Iles, trombone.
