UWG professor wins Science Teacher of the Year March 22, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. Letitia Reeves, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction at the University of West Georgia, recently received the College Science Teacher of the Year Award from the Georgia Science Teachers Association.
The
College Science Teacher of the Year Award is given to one recipient in
Georgia each year, recognizing ongoing excellence in the teaching of science
and commitment to its improvement. She has served as past president of the West Georgia chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, a member of the National and Georgia Science Teachers Associations and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She also served on the Manuscript Review Panel for Science and Children, the NTSA Journal of Elementary School Teachers and on the editorial board of The Georgia Science Teacher Journal. Reeves said she is committed to teaching pre-service and in-service teachers how to use the inquiry method of instruction to deliver science content to their elementary-age students. “The hands-on, minds-on approach to science stimulates students to actively engage in science investigations by asking questions, hypothesizing, experimenting and drawing conclusions from data collected,” says Reeves. Reeves also recently received grant money to conduct research in science education and to purchase science instructional materials for classroom teachers. -30- |
