Saxophone Recital

March 9, 2004

CARROLLTON, GA - Saxophonist Bart Walters will play his graduate recital at the University of West Georgia on Monday, March 15, at 8:15 p.m. in Kathy Cashen Hall.

Walters, accompanied by pianists Dr. Patricia Dinkins-Matthews and Captain Dwayne Milburn, will play The Nature of This Whirling Wheel by Rodney Rogers, the Sonata for Soprano Saxophone and Piano by Jindíich Feld, Lilith by William Bolcom, and the Concerto for Alto Saxophone by Ingolf Dahl. The pieces are by 20th century composers and range widely in style and content.

Walters is a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and is currently assigned to the Army Ground Forces Band at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta. Originally from Naples, Florida, he attained his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in Saxophone Performance. He is now pursuing the Masters of Music degree in Saxophone Performance at UWG, studying with Dr. John Bleuel, assistant professor.

Dinkins-Matthews is a member of the piano faculty at Emory University. She is an active solo and chamber music recitalist who has performed both in the United States and in Europe, and is the associate pianist for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

Milburn is the Commander of the U.S. Army Ground Forces Band and was the Director of Cadet Music at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He has directed the group in performances with the Dallas Symphony, the Houston Pops, and The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own.”
