Honors Day Recital March 18, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - The Department of Music at the University of West Georgia will present its annual Honors Day Recital and awards ceremony on Wednesday, March 30, at 3:30 p.m. The recital will take place in the Kathy Cashen Recital Hall in the Humanities building. There is no admission fee for this event. This year’s recital will feature saxophonist William Camp of Rockmart playing a sonata by Paul Creston and an original jazz composition; soprano Rose Blanchard of Austell singing a Schubert lied; Bryan Hall of Douglasville playing a sonata by Marcello on tuba; soprano Phylicia McCutchen of Marietta singing a Mozart aria; tenor Alfredo Dale Edwards III of Vidalia singing Puccini’s “Nessun dorma”; bass-baritone Philip M. Jones of East Point singing a Brahms lied; guitarist Brandon Johnson of Douglasville playing a study by Villa-Lobos and pianist Laura English of Bremen playing a rhapsody by Eckstein. Accompanying the recitalists are Jan Adams, instructor of keyboard skills, and Dr. Daniel Bakos, professor of music. Dr. Kevin Hibbard, chair of the department, will present the awards for music students with exceptional academic accomplishment at the beginning of the recital. The Music Faculty Award will be presented to Melissa Huckeba of Carrollton; the Mary Lou Munn Award will be presented to Allison DeLoach of Douglasville; the Gordon Watson Award will be presented to Michael Burnaman of Woodstock; the Carrollton Lit Mu Club Award and the Larry Teal Saxophone Award will be presented to William Camp of Rockmart; the Marching Band Leadership Award and MTNA StAR Award will be presented to Christopher Holloway of Temple, and the Genevieve Reynolds Piano Pedagogy Award will be awarded to Rachael Griffin of Conyers.
