Jazz Ensemble Performance March 8, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - The Jazz Ensemble at the University of West Georgia will spotlight music from the big band era in a concert on Thursday, March 17. The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. at the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts and will be free to UWG students. Pieces that the ensemble will perform include “Over the Rainbow” by Harold Allen and Brad Morey; “Dancing in the Dark” by Arthur Schwartz and Gerry Mulligan; “The Snake Was On His Way to a Gig” by Tom Kubis, featuring the trombone section “Blues Right Down to the Shoes” by Don Schamber; “A Night in Tunisia” by Jeff Tyzik and “Vine Street Rumble” by Benny Carter. Dr. Daniel Bakos, professor of music and director of jazz studies, will direct the ensemble from the piano. Vocalist Lauren Humphrey will be featured on Dave Grusin’s “Travelin’ Blues” as well as on “Only You” by Bob Florence. The Jazz Ensemble is extremely active, performing throughout the semester and touring the southeast at the end of the year. The ensemble will also be featured at the 17th Annual Sunbelt Jazz Festival on April 29 at the Townsend Center.
