4th Annual Miracle Marathon

March 1, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - Games, dancing, food and entertainment — all part of the agenda for the 4th annual Miracle Marathon at the University of West Georgia. Students will participate in a 12-hour long marathon on March 12 at the H.P.E. building to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Each participant is required to raise $125 and they have been working throughout the year by soliciting funds from sponsors. The Miracle Marathon committee has also sponsored fundraisers such as a silent auction and a golf tournament to boost the amount of money raised for the event. The event will celebrate the hard work and dedication that has been contributed to the cause by the University, community and students have contributed for the cause.

At the Marathon, participants will be divided into morale groups represented by different colors. Each group has morale leaders who work to enthuse the participants throughout the 12-hour event. The hours are divided into themes such as an amateur hour including a talent show and a western hour featuring cloggers.

“I love it because it’s such an inspiration to see the children and the campus come together to share such a close bond for what we’re doing,” stated Corrine Jackson from Newnan, fundraising co-chair for the Miracle Marathon Committee.

When the Marathon first began in 2002, participants raised $11,000 — last year that total was over $24,000. The Miracle Marathon committee is hoping this year’s grand total will be the highest to date. The number of participants is already over 130 and students still have time to sign up.
