Veterans History Project

March 21, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - Do you have friends or family members who served our country during a time of war? Would you like for their stories to be remembered by future generations? If so, the Center for Public History (CPH) at the University of West Georgia has a place for you in the Veterans History Project (VHP).

According to Katie Reed, graduate assistant involved with VHP, volunteers are needed who are willing to go out into the community and collect these valuable stories. A free training workshop for interested volunteers will be held on Sunday, April 3, at 3 p.m. in Pafford Building, Room 202.

The VHP is an endeavor sponsored by the Library of Congress that focuses on interviewing veterans of all wars and those who served on the home front. The CPH was selected to participate in the project and to interview veterans in the west Georgia area. Numerous interviews have been conducted this year to add to the collection of over 200.

Reed noted that another means of involving volunteers is through classroom teachers who may incorporate this project into their curriculum.

To register for the workshop or for additional information on the VHP, contact Reed or Dr. Rebecca Bailey, director of the project, in the CPH at 678-839-6141.
