Celebration of Womanhood March 3, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - The fifth annual “Celebration of Womanhood” at the University of West Georgia will be held Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. in the Kathy Cashen Hall of the Humanities Building featuring a lecture by Alethea Bonello, southeast regional director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Bonello’s topic will be “Preparing our students for a world of cultural differences.” According to Moyeen Abiodun, multicultural chair of the Student Activities Council (SAC), the evening is in memory of UWG student Toyal Jackson, who initiated the event. “This semi-formal function is for the appreciation and celebration of woman kind on our campus,” she said. In addition to poetry and live music, the event will include awards given in recognition of woman on campus who have shown the potential for greatness. “The Select Seven” will honor seven outstanding women who have been nominated by their organization, colleagues or faculty for their remarkable qualities and talent, Abiodun noted. The
lecture is sponsored by the Black Student Alliance, the Student Government
Association, the Student Peace Action Network (SPAN), SAC and the Political
