Small Business Center to host Development Certification

March 16, 2006

CARROLLTON, GA - The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of West Georgia will host its first Entrepreneur Development Certification Program (EDCP) beginning March 23.

The new program is sponsored by United Community Bank and features a series of six classes covering relevant topics for small business owners or individuals interested in starting a new business. The EDCP series can be taken separately for $39 for each class or as one series of six classes for $159.

Topics include “How to Start Your Own Business,” “Legal Issues of the Small Business” and “Writing an Effective Business Plan.”

The EDCP series will be held in Carrollton, Douglasville and Newnan.

Classes in Douglasville will be held at the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce on Thursdays, from 6 – 8:30 p.m., beginning March 23.

Classes in Carrollton will be held at The Burson Center on Tuesdays, from 6 – 8:30 p.m., beginning April 18.
Newnan classes will be held at the UWG Newnan Campus on Thursdays, 6:30 – 9 p.m., beginning May 18.

“We have a great variety of classes that we have put together to cover major concerns that have been expressed from entrepreneurs in the local communities,” said Jennifer Clendenin, director of the SBDC. “It is because of the support of United Community Bank that we are able to make these classes available.”
The SBDC is located in the Richards College of Business on the University of West Georgia campus and offers free, confidential consulting services for new and existing small businesses in Carroll, Douglas, Haralson, Heard and Coweta counties.
