Ingram Library to host MLIS Program

March 27, 2006

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia and the Ingram Library will host a presentation of the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program offered by Valdosta State University (VSU) on Friday, March 31, 10 a.m. to noon.

The event will take place in the second floor conference room of the Ingram Library. Dr. Wallace Koehler, director of the MLIS program at VSU, will give a presentation at 11 a.m.

VSU provides the only training opportunity for careers in special, academic and public librarianship in Georgia. The MLIS program contains curriculum designed for students who have jobs and families and can’t attend class on campus for long periods of time. The program is a 39-hour, non-thesis program that is mostly web-based and one that has been granted candidacy status by the Committee on Accreditation of the American Library Association.

Anyone interested in learning more about a career in libraries and the master program at VSU is welcome. Several current VSU students who are members of the Ingram Library staff will be present to answer questions about the MLIS program offered at Valdosta.

Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 678-839-6492.
