Research Day at UWGMarch 2, 2006 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia’s first annual Research Day will take place throughout the university campus on Tuesday, March 7. Research Day is the prelude to Big Night, UWG’s celebration of undergraduate student research, which is scheduled April 6. Every project presented at Big Night 2006 will be selected on Research Day. One project or paper in each of the traditional six academic categories of the arts, business, education, humanities, sciences and social sciences will be selected for presentation at Big Night. Students’ research presentations that are not chosen will be included in the Big Night exhibition. Dr. Thomas J. Hynes, vice president for academic affairs, said the event will give undergraduate research the recognition it deserves. “Great student presentations often miss chances for larger audiences,” said Hynes. “Through the collaboration of colleagues across campus, March 7, has been designated as the inaugural Research Day. These selection events will provide the campus with additional chances to observe and celebrate the great work of our students supported by their faculty mentors.” The schedule for Research Day competitions is as follows: *Fine Arts, 4 - 8 p.m., in Kathy Cashen Recital Hall *Social Sciences, 6 - 8 p.m., in the TLC, Room 1203 *Sciences, 12:30 - 5 p.m., in the Callaway Building, Room 205 *Humanities, 4 - 7 p.m., in the Martha Munro Building, Conference Room *College of Education, 7 p.m., in the Education Center *Richards College of Business, 7 p.m., in the Adamson Lecture Hall For more information about Research Day, call 678-839-6582. -30- |
