Dr. Dave Hovey recognized

April 4, 2003

CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. Dave Hovey, professor of Business Administration and Director of the Center for New Business Ventures at the University of West Georgia, has been selected as the Georgia and Southeastern Regional Research Advocate of the Year by the Small Business Administration (SBA).

Dr. William Deegan, director of the Small Business Development Center at UWG, said, “Over the 18 years that I have known Dr. Hovey, he has consistently been a champion and leader of research, teaching and promotion of business management, especially as it relates to the small business community of our region and entrepreneurship in general.”

Hovey served as dean of the Richards College of Business from 1984 to 1999 and then became a research professor of Management and Business Systems. At that time, he also took on a new assignment and goal of supporting small business development in the region by establishing the Center for New Business Ventures.

This research and development center is focused on identifying area entrepreneurs who are developing high-tech computer based applications and companies that have high economic growth impact.

“Hovey is an active researcher, educator, teacher, consultant and overall supporter of small business in this region of Georgia and is deserving of recognition as Research Advocate of the Year for Small Business,” said Deegan.
