Tuskegee Airmen lecture

April 11, 2003

CARROLLTON, GA - Come hear the story of the real Tuskegee Airmen on Thursday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in room 1303 of the Technology-enhanced Learning Center on the campus of the University of West Georgia. The lecture is sponsored by the UWG History Department and the Black Student Alliance.

Dr. Todd Moye, of the National Park Service Tuskegee Airmen Oral History Project, will present the story of the Tuskegee Airmen and the oral history project that has been recording the memories of the men and women involved in the World War II effort immortalized in the HBO movie starring Laurence Fishburn and Cuba Gooding, Jr.

As Moye reveals, the Airmen’s struggles not only included fighting Nazis, but also the prejudice of their fellow Americans and comrades in arms. In their fight for equality and respect, these brave individuals used sit-ins and boycotts almost 10 years before the beginning of the modern phase of the civil rights movement.

The presentation, which will be supported by powerpoint audioclips and photographs, will last approximately one hour, to be followed by a question and answer session. For more information, contact the History Department at 770-836-6508.
