Bleuel Duo to perform April 5, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - John Bleuel and Linda Li-Bleuel will combine their talents in a presentation of new music for saxophone and piano in the Bleuel Duo Recital on Tuesday, April 13, at 8:15 p.m. in Kathy Cashen Recital Hall in the Humanities Building at the University of West Georgia. Bleuel, assistant professor of music at West Georgia, and Li-Bleuel, assistant professor of music at Clemson University, will perform “Cadenza” by Lucie Robert, “Elegie et Rondeau” by Karel Husa, “Trois Petits Preludes” by Edith Lejet, the “Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano” by Jindrich Feld, and “Brilliance” by Ida Gotkovsky. They will repeat this program at Christ and St. Stephen’s Church in New York City on April 19 as part of the North/South Consonance 2003-04 concert season. The Bleuels have performed together since 1990 and have been featured in the Bridge New Music Series at the Lincoln Center, national and international meetings of the College Music Society, regional and national meetings of the North American Saxophone Alliance, and the 11th, 12th and 13th World Saxophone Congresses. They can be heard on volumes one and two of Arizona University Recordings’ “America’s Millennium Tribute to Adolphe Sax” and ACA Digital’s “Vortex.” William Penn of Arizona University Recordings has said, “John and Linda Bleuel are two of the most exciting artists on our label, performing with sensitivity, lyricism, and virtuosity. They are magnificent. They are the new ambassadors of literature for saxophone and piano.” Bleuel is an active soloist who recently performed “Ingolf Dahl’s Concerto for Saxophone and Wind Orchestra” with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Wind Ensemble and premiered Scott Hawkinson’s “Saxophone Concerto” with the UWG Wind Symphony in April 2003. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance at the University of Georgia. An active recitalist and chamber musician, Li-Bleuel has performed as a soloist with the Clemson University Orchestra and co-founded the Clemson University Women’s Arts Festival. She has received a grant from Clemson to record a solo CD of 20th-century American piano fantasies for Arizona University Recordings. She earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at the University of Georgia. There is no admission charge for this event.
