Multi-ensemble recital to be held April 2, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - Three student ensembles are putting together a recital of instrumental music featuring saxophones, guitar and brass at the University of West Georgia for Monday, April 12, at 8:15 p.m. in Kathy Cashen Recital Hall in the Humanities Building. The Saxophone Ensemble, directed by Dr. John Bleuel, assistant professor of music, will play an arrangement of the first movement of Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 2,” the “Fanfare” from La Peri by Paul Dukas, “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair” by Debussy, and a dance known as the “Sousa One-Step” written by John Philip Sousa for saxophone ensemble. The Brass Ensemble, directed by trumpet instructor Phil Elkins, will perform four Renaissance dances by Tylman Susato, one of the first publishers of printed music. The pieces are titled “La Mourisque,” “Bransle Quatre Bransles,” “Ronde” and “Basse Danse Bergeret.” The Guitar Ensemble, directed by Dr. Thomas Garcia, assistant professor of music, will play two folksong arrangements by Villa-Lobos.
