Creating a Healthier Home April 26, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - Many experts point to poor indoor air quality as contributing to health problems. Yet the trend toward improving energy efficiency has effectively reduced ventilation in today’s homes at the same time that we have increased the quantity and types of chemicals used in their construction, furnishing, decoration and maintenance. “Creating a Healthier Home,” a new online course from the University of West Georgia’s Department of Continuing Education, is filled with practical tips you can put to immediate use to improve the air quality within your home. Participants will learn about a wide variety of indoor pollutants from mold to radon. Other topics include moisture problems, the basics of building science, ventilation, filtration and spotting potential problems in your own home or one you’re considering purchasing. Creating a healthier home is often as simple as changing your mindset. This course will have you thinking differently about the products you bring into your home and yard. Online courses start on the third Thursday of each month, and you can register anytime up to a week after a course begins. “Creating a Healthier Home” consists of 12 lessons for a total cost of $79, and course lessons are released twice a week. You can log on to the course anywhere you have Internet access. Course material for each lesson is available around the clock to be read and studied at your convenience, and a 10-day window is allowed for completion of each lesson.
