Nursing Alumna awarded

April 9, 2004

CARROLLTON, GA - Anne Medlin, University of West Georgia’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) alumna, received the 2004 Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Outstanding Achievement in Mentorship Award, during an awards ceremony held in San Diego, CA.

This award recognizes a registered nurse (RN) whose accomplishments in the areas of perioperative nursing practice reflect the goal of excellence in patient care. One criterion for the award emphasizes that the recipient should serve as a role model, inspiring colleagues to improve the quality of care.

Betty Shultz, AORN president, said, “Anne provides distinguished service to the nursing profession. Her commitment to improving the care of surgical patients and her activities directed toward meeting that goal has served as an inspiration to others.”

After receiving her nursing diploma from Georgia Baptist, Medlin came to West Georgia where she received her BSN. She said, “The Department of Nursing at West Georgia is superior. They helped develop my expertise as an operating room manager and furthermore taught me many other necessary skills, all that contributed to my nomination for this award.”

While at West Georgia, Medlin was a part of Sigma Theta Tau, the nursing honors fraternity, and a member of AORN, where she later became president of northwest Georgia’s chapter three different times.

Medlin was already an RN and had held the position as OR manager at WellStar Douglas, which is her current position, before earning her BSN at UWG.

Medlin added “Anyone interested in nursing should look into West Georgia’s nursing department for the beginning of a great nursing career.”
