Sewell receives Political Science Award April 5, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. Said Sewell, assistant professor of political science at the University of West Georgia, was recently awarded the Anne Julia Cooper Teacher of the Year Award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientists (NCOBPS).
Cooper was born into a condition of enslavement but secured her PhD in French from the Sorbonne. The award is given to the teacher who has demonstrated excellence in the classroom as a teacher, advisor or academic counselor. The NCOBPS is organized to study, enhance and promote political aspirations of people of African descent living in America. It is organized primarily as an intellectual vehicle and an educational instrument to resolve the multi-faceted predicament that confronts people of African descent both in the United States and throughout the Diaspora. Sewell currently serves as the secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for the state of Georgia and is the faculty advisor for West Georgia’s NAACP chapter. -30- |
