Clarinet Studio

April 19, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia Clarinet Studio, under the direction of clarinetist and Studio Director Luan Mueller, will perform a free recital on Wednesday, April 20, at 8:15 p.m. in Kathy Cashen Recital Hall in the Humanities Building.

The clarinet students will perform works by Haydn, Finzi, Tartini, Stamitz, Mozart and Handel, accompanied by Jan Adams at the piano.

The UWG Clarinet Studio has performed for the community at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center and the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. Recently, members hosted an invitational masterclass with internationally recognized clarinetist Karl Leister of the Berlin Philharmonic, who also demonstrated the Wurlitzer clarinet for an enthusiastic audience. Assisting the Atlanta Clarinet Association with this gala event were studio members Tracy Kay Ammons, Samantha Harrell, Christina Tomassini and Jessica Zimmerman.

The clarinet students were also involved with the annual UWG Honor Band, at which Brian Mills and Tomassini auditioned visiting middle school and high school students for evening performances.

In addition to community and school performances, the Clarinet Studio is preparing to host the 2005-06 Van Doren Reed Company’s 100th anniversary event titled “Clarinet Choirs in Concert,” which will bring musicians from around the region to the West Georgia campus. Mueller will also be the featured artist for the first Clarinet Symposium Invitational, to be held in March 2006 in conjunction with the UWG Saxophone and Percussion Studios.
