Comedy of Errors

CARROLLTON, GA - You may think you know Shakespeare, but what about Shakespeare on roller skates, at Mardi Gras, rapping on beat? The West Georgia Theatre Company will present a unique take on The Comedy of Errors, April 13-16, at 7:30 p.m. and April 17 at 2:30 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts (TCPA).
This Shakespearean classic tells the story of two sets of twins born at the same time who somehow became separated from their siblings. Chaos ensues when these brothers stumble into the town of Ephesus causing an uproar with a bad case of mistaken identity.
From the vividly colorful décor of the set to the eye-catching combination of urban costumes with Mardi Gras themed masks, Comedy will surely be a first-rate theatrical experience. Audiences will be amazed at the variety of delights in store for them as this play performed as a rap, set to hip-hop beats, and mixed with country stylings, turns this Shakespearean classic into an experience that should not be missed.
The cast members include Ian Rowswell, Adel; Stan Battle, Stone Mountain; Adrie Keaton, Jonesboro; Larry Hendrix, Carrollton; Paige Steadman, Peachtree City; Heather Schroeder, Lilburn; Kimberly Newton, Chatsworth; Perlisha Jones, Atlanta; Andrew Sawyer, Cedartown; Greg Hurd, Augusta; Stephanie Polhemus, Atlanta; and Milt Brannon, Atlanta.
The
play is directed by Shelly Elman, assistant professor of theatre and director
of Theatre Arts.
The tech crew includes Justin Horn, Lawrenceville; Deveka Owens, Carrollton;
Timothy Reynolds, Savannah; Marnesha Dukes, Atlanta; and Frances Findley,
Rex. The set was conceptualized by guest scenic designer John Thigpen,
and costumes and make-up were designed by Alan Yeong.
Tickets for the production will go on sale April 6 at TCPA and are $10 for guests and free for students with UWG ID.
