Fashion Show to raise funds for Tsunami Relief

April 15, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - Students and faculty at the University of West Georgia are continuing their efforts to help the victims of the Asian tsunami. A combination of various student organizations, under the name UWG Students United, is sponsoring a fashion show on April 25 at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Food Services Building (Z-6).

The theme of the fashion show will be “Heal the World: Fashion Extravaganza for Tsunami Relief.” In addition to raising money for tsunami relief, the event will also be directed at promoting the current Student Government Association (SGA) goal of “Unity” on campus. MyAmy Fashions has volunteered to provide the clothing for the models.

Some of the organizations represented at the fashion show are the Black Student Alliance (BSA), Baptist Student Union (BSU), Circle K, the International Student Club and REAL: Recruiting Emerging Alumni Leaders.

According to Jason Allen, SGA president, $7,500 has been donated by UWG students and alumni with an additional $2,200 contributed by the faculty and staff.

Tickets for the fashion show will be $1 for students (with UWG ID) and a canned good, $2 for students without a canned good and $3 for faculty, staff and all others. Tickets will be available beginning Tuesday, April 19, in front of the UCC or at the Office of Student Activities on the second floor of the University Community Center (UCC).
