Groundbreaking for Campus Center

CARROLLTON,
GA - The University of West Georgia did not let thunderstorms rain out
the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the new Campus Center. An indoor
ceremony celebrated the start of construction for the first of a three–phase
project that will provide UWG students with a first class recreational
facility. Phase One (53,724 square feet) will be built around the existing
HPE building and will house a comprehensive fitness center, aerobics rooms,
four-lane bowling alley, game room, 45-foot climbing wall, meeting rooms,
student organization office space and outdoor recreation storage. Construction
is scheduled to be complete in 2006. At work with the ceremonial gold
shovels were: (l-r) Dr. Beheruz Sethna, UWG president; Michael Miller,
University System of Georgia Office of Facilities; Dave Naeger, vice president
of Brasfield and Gorrie; John Jokerst, director of real estate for Carter
and Associates; Tim Fish, project director for Cooper Carry; Linda Picklesimer,
UWG director of student activities; Dr. Melanie McClellan, UWG vice president
for student services; Mike Renfrow, UWG assistant vice president for campus
planning and facilities; Bill Gauthier, vice president for business and
finance; Jason Allen, 2004-05 president of Student Government Association
(SGA); and Paul Whatley, 2003-04 president of SGA.
