UWG hosts Residence Hall Conference

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia recently won the bid to host the 2006 conference of the South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (SAACURH). The title of the conference will be “No Frills 2006” with the theme of “SAACURH Olympics: Champions of Community.”

The conference will be hosted by the UWG chapter of Forming Leaders and Mentors Everywhere (F.L.A.M.E.) of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) and will take place from March 10 to 12 at UWG. Nearly 250 student representatives and advisors of Residence Hall Associations (RHAs) and NRHH chapters from the region that includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia will attend the conference. While there they will vote on legislation, awards, elect new regional officers and conduct other conference business.

The bid was accepted during the “No Frills 2005” conference at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. The team that presented the bid for the 2006 conference for West Georgia included Kevin Hemphill of Bremen, Patricia Lawson of Decatur and Travis English of Douglasville.

UWG students were elected to positions on the SAACURH Executive Committee at the 2005 conference. Kevin Hemphill was elected as regional publications coordinator while Hope Cannon of Cohutta was elected associate director for business administration.
