Intramural team wins State Softball Championship

April 19, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia Intramurals Program brought home an important victory when the Z-6’ers won the Men’s League Intramural State Softball Championship recently at Valdosta State University. This is the first year that West Georgia has taken home the softball championship since 1987.

The triumphant Z-6’ers went undefeated in the tournament in competition with more than 20 teams. Three of the Z-6’ers were also elected to the All-Tournament Team for their outstanding performance. They were Sam Norman of Fayetteville, Matt Kuehl of Newnan and Rob Pressley of Gainesville.

“UWG intramural teams have finished first or second in the two state tournaments — flag football and softball — they entered this year, against teams from Georgia Tech, UGA, Georgia Southern, Columbus State University, Valdosta State University and Georgia College and State University,” said Dr. Walter Todd, coordinator of intramurals and open recreation. “You can see some of the best, if not the best, intramural teams in the state daily at the intramural fields of UWG.”

The other nine team members are Matt Bowers of Peachtree City, Kevin Bruce of Woodstock, Adam Grey of Moultrie, Matt High of Snellville, Brett Jones and Zack Romain of Ringgold, Austin McCurdy of Dallas, Brandon McPherson of Cartersville and John Prahst of Camden County.
