Wind Symphony and Concert Band

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia Wind Symphony and Concert Band will present the “Second Annual Invitation Concert” on Saturday, April 23, at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. They will be directed by Dr. Douglas Overmier, director of bands.

The new Concert Band, comprised of musicians pursuing a wide range of academic majors at UWG, will make its concert debut at the evening’s performance.

The Wind Symphony, comprised of the University’s top instrumentalists, including music majors and students from other disciplines, will be making its second campus appearance of the semester. The group has toured throughout the southeastern United States and been featured at numerous music conventions.

Also performing with the Wind Symphony will be high school juniors and seniors from around the Southeast who have expressed an interest in attending UWG. All participants will be recognized during the concert.

The concert will feature works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Charles Ives, Vincent Persichetti and other well-known composers. New works by David Gillingham and programmatic works by Johan de Meij will also be performed.
