Ingram Library Lecture

April 6, 2006

CARROLLTON, GA - The Ingram Library at the University of West Georgia will present its sixth annual Irvine Sullivan Ingram Library Lecture on Thursday, April 20, at 2 p.m. in the Food Services Building.

Nancy Davenport, president of the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), will speak about how changes in the information landscape affect all aspects of libraries. The CLIR is an independent and nonprofit organization that helps to expand the concept of “library” and supports the providers and preservers of information.

Faculty who attend the lecture will be eligible to win $250 in library collection development funds for teaching materials.

In celebration of the university’s centennial year beginning this fall, the lecture series will be renamed in honor of the late Charles E. Beard, former UWG professor and director of university libraries. The lecture series will be funded through the Charles E. Beard Ingram Library Endowment.

Beard worked with faculty and staff to establish the lecture series in 2001 with a goal of raising campus awareness of the value of libraries, the new directions libraries are taking and the challenges they face. Beard was known for his perseverance and dedication to libraries. For 26 of his 40 years in the library profession, he worked on the UWG campus, and he is credited with making Georgia Library Learning Online (GALILEO) a reality for all libraries in Georgia.

The Ingram Library Lecture is a free event. For more information contact Ingram Library at 678-839-6350 or visit www.westga.edu/library/lecture.
