UWG Saxophone Ensemble Performance

CARROLLTON, GA - The UWG Saxophone Ensemble and Studio will perform “American Music for Saxophone” on Tuesday, April 11, at 8:15 p.m. in Kathy Cashen Recital Hall at the University of West Georgia.

Solo works to be performed include “Romance” by William Grant Still, “Diversion” by Bernhard Heiden, “Dorian Elegy” and a sonata by Arthur Frackenpohl, “Rhapsody” by Cesar Giovannini and a sonata by Paul Creston. UWG music instructor Jan Adams will provide accompaniment on piano.

Following the solos, Dr. John Bleuel, assistant professor of music, will conduct the ensemble as it performs Jay Vosk’s “Midnight Passacaglia” and “Washington Post” by John Philip Sousa.

The ensemble is comprised of UWG alumni, faculty and students. The student performers, all saxophone students of Bleuel’s, are Donovan Addison of Tallapoosa, Reed Armstrong of Bremen, Emily Cash of Lawrenceville, Stacy Gay of Kennesaw, James Johnson of Norcross, Jacob Kahler of Conyers, Allan Knighton of Lithonia, Chad Sims of Buchanan, Bronn Tallant of Douglasville and Jessie Tomes of Cumming.

Alumni include public school music teachers Patti Kelley of Carrollton and James Mauney of Bowdon. Another faculty performer is Dr. Andrew Leavitt, professor of chemistry and associate vice president for development and alumni relations.
