May 20, 2003

CARROLLTON, GA - Students at the University of West Georgia have been hard away dialing numbers for the past seven months. Their persistent work has definitely paid off — a record setting $113,086 was raised during the Phonathon, which is organized through the Office of Development and Alumni Services.

UWG News PhotoAccording to Mandy Parrish, development coordinator and supervisor of the Phonathon, students call UWG alumni from September through April, working the call center from 6-9 p.m. four nights during the week.

“It was quite exciting that we reached our goal,” said Karla Stanford, one of the callers from this year. “Last year we raised over $100,000 so when we reached our goal and surpassed $110,000, it was amazing.” This was Stanford’s second year manning the phones.

Jennifer Hale, another caller from the Phonathon added, “My Phonathon experience has been great. The alumni are happy to hear from us and they are always ready to share stories from their days at West Georgia.”
