2004 MBA Competition

May 7, 2004

UWG News PhotoCARROLLTON, GA - A student team from the Georgia WebMBA®, which is offered by a group of five universities including the University of West Georgia, placed second in the Georgia Turnaround Management Association 2004 MBA Competition, held April 29 in Atlanta.

Brian Bussey, corporate pilot for ChevronTexaco, Aircraft Operations, was a member of the team. Bussey is a West Georgia student who recently graduated from the program.

The competition allows students to work in a consulting capacity with real companies facing the need for corporate renewal. “When a real problem comes up, you can’t just put the textbook away,” said Michael Brooks, public relations chair of the Georgia-Atlanta chapter who introduced the student teams. “You have to deal with it.”

Bussey and his teammates worked with a Georgia-based manufacturer and marketer of children’s wear products. Workers in the textile industry account for about 25 percent of manufacturing jobs in Georgia.

The WebMBA® team competed as part of its Business Strategy course, the “capstone” that marks the completion of the program.

The Georgia WebMBA® is an online degree offered by five AACSB-accredited University System of Georgia schools: University of West Georgia, Kennesaw State University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia Southern University, and Valdosta State University.
