Publisher course offered

May 12, 2004

CARROLLTON, GA - If you’ve been using Microsoft Word to design brochures, posters and fliers, you have no doubt discovered that designing from scratch on a word processor’s blank canvas can be a difficult process.

Whether you’re a volunteer publicity coordinator for your favorite organization or just need to make a poster for an upcoming event, you can learn to create attractive, professional-looking publications in no time in an upcoming “Microsoft Publisher” class at the University of West Georgia.

Microsoft Publisher is desktop publishing software included with the Microsoft Office Professional Suite. Its 1,600 templates can give you a powerful starting point for your next publication.

UWG’s six-hour continuing education course will concentrate on three major projects. Participants will first design an advertising flier to gain a basic understanding of Publisher’s features and then lay out a newsletter to become familiar with mastheads, columns, graphics and general design principles.

The class will conclude with the production of a larger catalog/brochure to allow students to practice creating forms, logos and calendars and the use of photographs.

“Microsoft Publisher” will be taught in the Computer University lab in the University’s Ingram Library on June 7 and 14, 6-9 p.m. The course is just $69, which includes hands-on instruction and a text. For more information or to register, visit the Continuing Education website at www.uwgce.com or call the department at 770-836-6611.
