UWG Prepares for Future Growth June 30, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA -The University of West Georgia has used 80 percent of its available land, and the facilities study indicates the institution will need four more academic buildings the size of the new Technology-enhanced Learning Center in the foreseeable future to keep up with projected growth. This information was shared with campus officials by Richard Galehouse, principal with Sasaki Associates Inc. of Boston, who is coordinating the campus efforts in updating UWG’s Facilities Master Plan. Sasaki is working in tandem with the University System of Georgia to develop a template for other system institutions. Charles Beard, director of University libraries, is chairing the five-year Master Facilities Plan steering committee, and he and UWG President Beheruz Sethna invite the community to an information meeting concerning the University’s growth and its impact on the surrounding community and region. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, at 4 p.m. in Room 1-303 of the Technology-enhanced Learning Center. According to Beard, the information Galehouse has to share is timely and of great importance to all aspects of the community. “The University wants to be a good collaborator with the community,” Beard explained. “We want the community to understand how rapidly the University is changing and to be informed and involved in this evolution.” Galehouse will present the findings of months of study by the steering committee. In addition to academic buildings, UWG is in need of other educational support facilities such as a Public Safety complex, additional student activities and recreational facilities, etc. “We are inviting civic leaders and every interested citizen to this information meeting,” Sethna noted. “We want their input and we need their support.” -30- |
