Dr. Larry Schor receives Counselor of the Year Award June 15, 2004
Named for an early member of the profession, the George C. Podein Counselor of the Year Award is bestowed annually on an LPCA member who has displayed exemplary leadership in the counseling profession within the state. It also recognizes excellence in clinical practice, academic work, professional supervision, research and community service. Previous recipients include private practitioners, counselor educators and supervisors, and counseling center directors. Schor was selected from among the organization’s more than 1,500 state members for his work with students, counseling and supervision work in the community, contributions to statewide licensure regulation, and service to the LPCA and the counseling profession in such roles as disaster intervention coordinator and member of the Government Relations Committee. He was also commended for his extensive community service work, including involvement with disaster relief after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and pro bono counseling work. “Dr. Schor’s clinical knowledge and skills have been essential to the growth and expansion of our psychology program,” said Dr. Don Rice, chair of the Department of Psychology. “Under his direction, our students receive the highest quality in academic and clinical training, enabling them to effectively serve the public’s mental health interests statewide and nationally. He is a valued member of our department.” -30- |
