Partnership between AAMI and Carrollton City SchoolsJune 2, 2006 CARROLLTON, GA - The inaugural reception for the African American Male Initiative (AAMI) Male Apprentice Program was held at the University of West Georgia in recognition of the partnership between Carrollton City Schools and the AAMI Male Apprentice Program.
“This is a great program for the university and the Carrollton City Schools,” said Hunter. “The mentoring relationship between students has unlimited potential.” The Male Apprentice Program provides UWG mentors for high school students. The AAMI Bayard Rustin Community Service Program provides UWG mentors to junior high school students. Dr. Said Sewell, associate professor of political science and planning at UWG, coordinates the junior high school mentoring program. There will be 10 university students participating in the 2006-07 mentoring program. Guests at the reception included Thomas Wilson, superintendent of Carrollton City Schools; Renee Stegall, counselor at Carrollton Junior High School; April Byrd-Jones, assistant principal of Carrollton High School; Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna, president of UWG; and Dr. Scot Lingrell, associate vice president for Enrollment Management. -30- |
