Two Senior Administrators AppointedJune 12, 2006 CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. Thomas J. Hynes, acting president of the University of West Georgia, announces the appointments for two senior administrative positions. The appointment of Dr. Jack Jenkins, dean of the Graduate School, as Special Associate to the President for Minority Affairs, and the appointment of Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna, president, as Interim Senior Vice Chancellor for Academics and Fiscal Affairs for the University System of Georgia, required acting appointments at UWG.
“He brings to the task substantial leadership experience that includes work in both Arts and Sciences and in Education,” Hynes said. “We believe he will be able to effectively interact across campus to build on the strengths we have here at UWG in graduate education. His skills will help our institution and its graduate faculty address a variety of program issues relating to enrollments and quality graduate program offerings.”
Rather than replace Stone with a single full time person for the four-month period, Hynes has asked two colleagues to help manage several project areas that are the responsibilities of the associate vice president. Michael Aldrich, associate professor of University Libraries, has served in a variety of university-wide roles including a recent term as chair of the Senate Faculty Administrative Staff Personnel Committee. Dr. Denise Overfield, associate professor and chair of Foreign Languages and Literature, has served as co-chair of the Campus Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee and recently received system wide recognition for work in that area. These and subsequent appointments will run concurrently with Sethna's appointment as Interim Senior Vice Chancellor. That appointment is currently scheduled to end by October 1, 2006 and began June 1. “Again, we are fortunate to have colleagues so willing and able to accept leadership roles during this period,” Hynes said. “I know that they will have the support of the campus community as we continue our commitment to excellence in a personal environment.” -30- |
