Minority Enrichment Program receives grant

June 19, 2006

CARROLLTON, GA - The Office of Admissions at the University of West Georgia and the UWG Minority Enrichment Program (MEP) received an $800 Extending the Dream grant from the Southern Association of College Admission Counseling (SACAC).

The grant will be used to add four additional students to the MEP enrollment at UWG. MEP is a summer program for minority students in Atlanta high schools. In July, 16 MEP students will stay in Tyus Hall for three nights and four days and get a taste of what college life is like.

The Office of Admissions and Delandra Hunter, assistant director of the Minority Achievement Program at the EXCEL Center, coordinate the program.

“It’s a great program,” said Hunter. “Several students who have participated in MEP are now attending West Georgia. It’s a way for students to become familiar with college life.”
