Eclectic Magazine receives national awardJuly 18, 2006 CARROLLTON, GA - The 2005 edition of Eclectic, the University of West Georgia’s literary and fine arts journal, received the National Program Directors’ Prize for Undergraduate Literary Magazines from the Association of Writers and Writer’s Programs (AWP). The AWP awards two prizes each year for best content and for best design and is one of the most prestigious awards a student publication can receive. Eclectic’s award was for the journal’s mixed media content. This is the second award the 2005 edition has received. The journal also won first place in the art and literary magazine category at the annual Southern Literary Festival last winter. Eclectic is an annual publication containing graduate and undergraduate works. This year, the 217-page magazine presented works of poetry, music, fiction and non-fiction writing, book reviews and excerpts from student screenplays. The 2005 journal also included a 30-page color section with photographs of paintings, sculptures and mixed media and seven music tracts recorded from performances at the university. UWG and the Department of English will host the National Undergraduate Literary Magazine Conference, Students Publishing Students, in November on campus.
