Advanced Academy hosts RideQ fundraising event

July 17, 2006

CARROLLTON, GA - The Advanced Academy of Georgia at the University of West Georgia will host its first annual RideQ fundraising event on Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m. The motorcycle event will take place on the UWG campus.

Susan Colgate, director of the Advanced Academy, said a surge in enrollment in the academy program is the inspiration for the event. More than 55 new students will attend the academy program this year.

“We have been and remain committed to the idea that the academy opportunity should be available to all, regardless of family income,” said Colgate. “This event will be a ride for scholarship. To our knowledge no prospective student has been unable to attend the academy due to a lack of funds and we hope to continue that tradition.”

The Advanced Academy is one of twelve early entrance college programs in the country to offer high school juniors and seniors residential living and college studies while completing high school graduation requirements.

The Julian C. Stanley Memorial Scholarship fund provides financial assistance to students who qualify for the program. Proceeds from the RideQ event will go toward the scholarship fund.

Activities at the event include a motorcycle parade and a bike show competition. Refreshments will be available and cash prizes will be awarded.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the Tyus Hall parking lot and helmets are required. Participants may register by July 19 for a fee of $30. Registration after the July 19 is $35. Tee shirts will be available while supplies last.

Contributions to the Julian C. Stanley Scholarship fund can also be mailed to Susan Colgate, University of West Georgia, Honors House, 1601 Maple St., Carrollton, GA, 30118.
