Summer Graduation Ceremony

July 18, 2006

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia will hold its summer commencement ceremony on Saturday, July 29, at 9 a.m. in Grisham Stadium at Carrollton High School. Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders will be the commencement speaker.

Borders was recently named by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as one of the 100 most influential people in Atlanta and described by the paper as Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin’s “right hand woman.”

She has served as senior vice president of communications and external affairs at Cousins Properties, Inc., for five years and as president of the Atlanta City Council since the summer of 2004. She has also worked in the health care sector in Atlanta for more than 15 years. Borders earned a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and her master’s of science degree in health administration from the University of Colorado.

In case of rain, three indoor commencement ceremonies will be held that day in the Education Center. Graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences will attend commencement at 10 a.m.; graduates of the Richards College of Business and the College of Education will attend commencement at noon and recipients of a degree from the Graduate School will attend a ceremony at 2 p.m.
